90 Kedzie, Evanston, IL
The owners of this lakefront home in Evanston were seeking a comfortable and integrated breakfast area, family room, and dining room. An existing window and roof assembly had become leaky and generated considerable heat from solar gain. New walls consisting of French doors take full advantage of spectacular views and provide direct access to a deck overlooking the lake. Cantilevered above these walls is a brise-soleil (louvered projection) designed to reduce heat by blocking the sun’s rays during summer but allow the sun to enter and warm the house during winter. The result: a more comfortable, more energy-efficient home with flowing transitions from kitchen to breakfast area, family room, dining room, and deck.
